The Heart Behind the Mission

JJ’s Safe Swim Memorial Fund was created in loving memory of JJ, a joyful two-year-old whose life was lost to drowning. His passing changed everything for our family and became the reason behind this mission.

No family should have to experience the pain of losing a child to drowning. JJ’s absence is something our family carries every day, and his loss continues to shape our purpose. Through JJ’s Safe Swim Memorial Fund, we hope to help other families access the lessons, education, and resources that may prevent them from facing the same heartbreak.

What began from unimaginable loss has become a commitment to action. JJ’s memory now fuels our work to support drowning prevention, expand access to swim safety education, and help protect children across Arizona.

Our Mission

Our mission is to remove financial barriers for underserved and marginalized families by raising funds to sponsor swim lessons and water safety courses for children ages 0–14 through accredited swim schools and qualified child-focused providers across Arizona.

We do not provide swim lessons directly. Instead, we help families access trusted, professional instruction from providers already serving children in their communities.

What We Believe

We believe every child deserves the opportunity to learn how to be safer around water, regardless of income, neighborhood, or access to resources.

We believe drowning prevention takes more than one solution. It requires active adult supervision, water safety education, barriers, life jackets when appropriate, emergency preparedness, and access to professional swim instruction.

We believe cost should not be the reason a child misses the opportunity to learn essential water safety skills.

Our Role in the Community

We recognize and respect the swim schools, instructors, healthcare professionals, water safety advocates, prevention coalitions, and community organizations that have been working for years to help prevent child drowning across Arizona.

JJ’s Safe Swim Memorial Fund does not seek to replace that work. We seek to support it.

Our role is to raise funds, build awareness, and help connect families with accredited swim schools and qualified child-focused providers already equipped to teach children how to be safer around water.

Who We Serve

JJ’s Safe Swim Memorial Fund focuses on children ages 0–14 whose families may need financial support to access swim lessons and water safety education.

By helping fund lessons through accredited Arizona swim schools and qualified providers, we work to support families before tragedy happens.
